Databricks adds user-level app authorization to Apps platform
Databricks has launched general availability for on-behalf-of-user authorization in its Apps platform. Now, apps can act on a signed-in user’s behalf, enforcing all their individual data permissions in real-time. This means developers can build tools—like AI assistants or dashboards—that personalize results and respect each user’s access rights, without complicated, redundant code. Data security and privacy rules update instantly as permissions change, with Unity Catalog controls doing the heavy lifting.
- On-behalf-of-user authorization now generally available
- Apps act using each user’s identity for data requests
- Unity Catalog enforces permissions, including data-level filters
- No need to duplicate security logic inside the app
- Admins’ policy changes take effect immediately in app responses
