Most VMware customers looking at alternatives, survey finds
A new survey reports that 90% of VMware customers are evaluating alternatives because of rising licensing costs after Broadcom's acquisition. Nearly half say they're not moving workloads to VMware's flagship Cloud Foundation platform. Many are eyeing strategies that use multiple virtualization tools or mix hypervisors and containers to boost flexibility and control costs. The shift signals companies want less reliance on a single vendor for their critical infrastructure.
- 90% considering alternatives due to higher licensing costs
- 47% favor hybrid environments with hypervisors, containers
- 48% don't plan to adopt VMware Cloud Foundation
- Gartner predicts move to multi-vendor strategies by 2029
